Wedding is the most wonderful day in a bride’s life – at least it was in mine. But what comes before the day at hand is known only to us who have been meticulously preparing for this moment. Dear ladies, in this post, I will primarily give you some notes generally in regard to everything needed for the organization of this event. Of course, you will learn some details about décor, photography, cake, etc.
I must also say that information given here might be more applicable for the brides living in Serbia than out of this country from obvious reasons. Nevertheless, brides everywhere could use this as a reminder of where to start and maybe just out of curiosity to take a peek into my wedding day.
Serbs have many customs attached to the wedding day but younger generations often choose to disregard them – as we did. The only custom we have had was in regard to my fiancé and his parents coming to my parents’ house to “take away” the bride aka me.
So the most important items are:
- Wedding dress
- Decorative flowers for the guests (we have that in our tradition- these are usually in a form of a bracelet for ladies and pinned on a suit for men)
- Wedding cake
- Venue decoration
- Towels (we put nicely decorated towels on cars for the guests who came to get the bride)
This is the list of the most important items. Naturally everything is dependent on your budget and wishes according to which you can add or delete some of the items mentioned above. I have also had decorative boxes on each table and papers on each plate with pens for the guests to write their advices for the bride and groom and put them in the box.
The most important thing for me – as you can imagine, was a wedding dress. Luckily, I found it quite fast. Of course internet was a big help in searching but it also confused me because the choices were diverse. One tip I have for you is to try also dresses that you didn’t think would fit or that you think aren’t suitable for you. I have actually wanted to get the “mermaid” dress and I was really pleased with how it fit me. However, I’ve decided to try on my wedding dress on a whim and was surprised! I felt like a princess and I think that is the goal for the day!
I haven’t felt stressed while organizing my wedding. All of the selecting, deciding and organizing really appealed to me. I think that today is everything much easier considering that things are more available to order and the difference in prices between ordering and making something yourself is actually very small. When you think of how much time and nerves you would invest in dealing with certain things, ordering sometimes pays off. You need to, however, maintain the right attitude and not stoop before the first decorator you meet. In my opinion money is unnecessarily thrown away when it comes to organizing weddings. We usually go with the flow using the excuse “it’s once in a lifetime” and “this is my day”. In the end, I have decided to hire different persons to do my decorations instead of taking only one person to do everything. I have been discussing this with some new brides beforehand and many were not satisfied with how one person handled everything.
What was given to me as the most common advice is that decoration shouldn’t be my priority because the look of the banquet hall fades away anyways after the first round of alcohol and that I should pay more attention to things that will be more memorable after the wedding. That’s why photography was an important item in my itinerary. We have set aside a shooting day after the wedding and I was quite lucky that the weather forecast was in sync with my desires. Our first dance was also something that we have invested time in and didn’t regret it. While rehearsing for the dance, we had so much fun and it was just one more activity for us to do together.
If there are some additional questions in regard the wedding organization, please feel free to write to me in the comments. And I’ll leave you with some of the details and of course photos.
